After the meeting in Elazig, Turkey
Between 6th and 11th June in Elazig took place the third meeting of coordinators of the Comenius project, in which our school is involved. This time Debinka was represented by Mrs Teresa Myszkowska, the maths teacher and Barbara Shiell, the English teacher. The other participants came from Greece, Italy, Bulgaria and Spain. Bulgaria was also represented by a group of seven pupils.
Our delegation was warmly greeted by the hosts – teachers and pupils from Murat Illkogtetim Okulu, Yeni Mah,Elazig. To welcome us the older and even very young children danced beautifully, dressed in their national costumes. An interesting, mainly art, exhibition was prepared to show the school variety of activities (not just to do with the project). Then lunch, prepared by parents and teachers, consisting of most delicious local dishes was served . It was scrumptious.
After lunch, greeted by groups of kids, we were shown the school, admired the school special Comenius room and during the meeting in the computer room we held talks about the progress of our joint project . A special presentation prepared by the pupils of Debinka was shown to the gathered participants and everybody received a copy for further look. We also discussed future plans of our Comenius cooperation.
Our Turkish hosts were extremely hospitable and wanted to show us what was best to see in their region. Most attractive trips were being organised during which we admired the countryside.
But the most memorable, for sure, was the trip to the top of Nemrut mountain, where at sunrise we were waiting to see the magnificent giant statues. Most interesting were also trips to see the ancient city of Harput, where milk was used instead of water to built the old castle, our night visit to Urfa to see the fish pond which appeared to save Abraham’s life, not to forget the trip to the biggest dam on Euphrates river.
The best aspect of this meeting was getting to know such interesting people and exchanging ideas. To us contact with such different culture was precious. But those differences only enriched us, did not hinder mutual communication.
We only hope that the meeting in Poznan in October will be equally interesting. This is going to be a challenge.
